The leprechauns

Leprechauns sind kleine Kobolde,die in Irland für die Feen Schuhe anfertigen. Der Sage nach sind sie klein und unfreundlich, bekleidet mit einem Federhut und einer Schürze. Und vor allem besitzen sie einen großen Topf voller Gold, den sie wie einen Schatz hüten. Leprechauns sind schwer zu fangen, aber wenn sie ein Jäger erwischt, müssen sie ihm sagen, wo das Gold versteckt ist. Jedoch darf der Jäger den leprechaun nicht aus den Augen lassen, weil er mit allen Tricks verhindert will, dass der Schatz gefunden wird. Wenn der Jäger unachtsam wird, verschwindet der leprechaun und die Hoffnung, das Gold zu finden, ist dahin.

Für den Einsatz im Unterricht muss die Geschichte stark vereinfacht werden.

Games and Activities

Who's Sitting on  Gold... 
First you need a gold coin. (Made of chocolate.) 
The children sit down on the floor.  The (Leprechaun) then sits with his back facing the children.  The teacher signals one child to steal the gold.  The child sits on the gold as the rest of the children chant: 

Leprechaun, leprechaun, where's your gold?
Someone stole it from your home. 

The leprechaun has three guesses to reveal the child.  The child who stole the gold then becomes the leprechaun.

Run Little Leprechaun... 
Have the children sit in a circle.  Play music as the children pass around a shamrock made out of construction paper.  When the music stops the child holding the shamrock also stops.  The children yell "Run Little Leprechaun!"  The child gets up and runs around the circle once, then sits down again.  Let all children have a turn. 

Gold Counting...
Get one dice and a bag full of small chocolate gold coins.  Place them into a gold coloured bag.  Have the children take turns rolling the dice, then count out that many pieces of gold from their sacks.

Paper Plate Shamrock...
Colour three paper plates green.  Staple the plates together in form of shamrock.  Add a stem by using a tongue depressor, to complete the shamrock.
